From the collection Cantigas de Santa Maria, attributed to the Spanish king Alfonso X el Sabio. The lyrics of this particular cantiga tells the story of the unjust hanging of a German pilgrim on his way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, a story which is also reflected in the famous legend from Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
